Medical Missions Unlimited Is A Non-Profit Organization Offering Medical Services and Meeting Vital Needs In Christ's Name to the Forgotten of Central and South America, Mexico.
For the last decade Dr. Richard Young and Cathy Moore, R.N., have been actively involved in medical missions, traveling primarily to remote areas of the Ecuadorian Amazon with other mission organizations.  During their travels to this part of the world, Richard and Cathy developed a passion to provide assistance to the indigenous people of South America. And in 2008 they co-founded Medical Missions Unlimited, with the purpose of "Meeting Needs Around the World" for the forgotten poor in South America, Central America, Mexico.
It has been amazing to see what this first year for MMU has already brought to light as opportunities for us to impact remote areas of the world with the Love of Christ.
Since 2006 Richard has developed a relationship with Chuck and Ramona Shawver, who are American Baptist Missionaries in Chiapas, Mexico.  In 2007 Richard went to Mexico City and had the opportunity of observing Chuck and Ramona minister to the people of Mexico and to see the impact that living an active Christian life can make on a community.  As a result of that encounter, Richard and Cathy developed a plan to reach out to a forgotten segment of the Mexican Population in the Highlands of Chiapas and in just a few short months, a team was put together to serve as an initial expedition in September 2008.
This initial trip had 5 team members, including Richard and Cathy and over the course of 8 days the team visited 8 villages and treated over 140 patients for ailments including parasites, scabies, Typhoid, TB, Hypertension, Joint Pain and Cancer.  At the end of the expedition the team was unanimous in their belief that the people of the Highlands were not receiving the medical care they needed and that 2-3 trips to this area, per year would be very beneficial and rewarding.
In addition to MMU’s efforts to help meet the medical and ultimately the spiritual needs of the people of Chiapas, a second area of the world came to the attention of MMU through the missionary work being done in Liberia by Jessy and Calandra Togbadoya with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.  Daryl Roberts felt led to travel to Liberia where he worked with orphans living deep in the bush. During his work there God gave him a clear vision that he was to organize aid for these 101 precious children who are primarily victims of the civil war. When he returned Orphan Aid, Liberia (OAL) was born.  As of January 1, 2011, Orphan Aid Liberia has its own non-profit status. Please got to their website at for more information about OAL.
More information about MMU’s Latin American projects can be found on this site, including photographs, videos and maps that can better assist you in seeing where MMU has already been called to reach out in the name and Love of Christ.
